The Mansfield Art Center has made a significant financial commitment to bring the well-known work of New York artist, Nathan Sawaya, The Art of the Brick®, to north central Ohio, September 21 through November 16. Sawaya’s work, based on his childhood memories of playing with the brick construction pieces, has been seen in several international exhibits. A generation has grown up creating with these magical blocks. Sawaya’s work will inspire another generation in thinking “inside the brick.”
The exhibit includes his collaboration with photographer Dean West. Sawaya and West have collaborated on a number of images in a collection entitled In Pieces. CNN labeled the exhibit as one of the top 12 “Global Must-see Exhibitions.”
Along with the Sawaya’s intriguing exhibit, the Art Center invites Ohio residents to enter their own LEGO® creations. These must be original creations, not from some of the company’s boxed-set works.
Age group categories include ages 6-10, 11-15, 16 and up, “other,” which recognizes organizations, Lego Clubs, and Businesses. There will also be an activities area outdoors, with LEGOS® provided (weather permitting).
